Big Running Weekend
Clowne Road Runners Lewis Banton and Simon Sleney took part in the inaugural
Ultra Tour of the Peak. The race is over 59 mile with 2500 metres of accent.
Lewis came in a very creditable 3rd overall in a time of 10 hours 59mins with
Simon finishing in 12 hours 47 mins. The race starts at Whirlow Hall Farm and
takes in Burbage Moor, Derwent Edge, Win Hill, Kinder, Edale, Hollins Cross,
Castleton, Cave Dale, Bradwell, Hathersage before heading back via Carl Walk and
retracing the route to the finish.
Lewis commented, ' this is certainly the hardest race I've ever run but I'll
certainly be back for more next year'. Neither Lewis or Simon had competed over
anything this kind of distance so they were both in uncharted territory.

In the 12.12 trail run Darren King finished 4th overall and also1st vet making
sure that Clowne Road Runners were well represented in the honours at The Big
Running Weekend.

Rother Valley Triathlon Festival
Just to let you know there was a triathlon festival at Rother Valley last weekend
and myself and Caroline Boyd Southern (a 2nd claim from Maltby RC who also
took part in Clowne's Duathlon) took part in the Women's Only Super Sprint race
on Saturday.  We couldn't have asked for better weather - the water was still -
although green and full of duck poo - and the sun was shining.  The course
entailed 200m open water swim, 10km bike (2 laps of both lakes) and finally a 4
km run (1 lap of the big lake).  We were split into age group waves, with my wave
starting first.  With swimming not being my strongest discipline, there were a few
ladies splashing out of the water in front of me, but I soon caught them up on the
bike and then realised there wasn't anyone in front me and by the time I'd
completed the run, there wasn't anyone in site behind me either!
